Tiffany Nguyen, executive director of Ivins Inspired and a Strong Towns local leader, asked the Ivins City Council to host a Strong Towns local conversation on Oct. 22 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. She described the two-part format: a short expert presentation followed by resident-led dialogue intended to surface local concerns and community-grown solutions.
Judith Roundley (Desert Livability Program Manager, Conserv Southwest Utah) summarized results from recent local Strong Towns conversations, noting more than 300 participants across events in the region and follow-up projects such as bus-stop amenity inventories and neighborhood walk audits that led to concrete conversations with transit managers and community actions.
Nguyen told the council the program is a resource as well as a request: Strong Towns provides training materials and local leaders willing to help run conversations. Council members said they had no objection to the event being held in the city’s meeting space provided the building is available and cautioned regarding open-meeting restrictions for elected officials who participate in planning the event.
The council offered procedural guidance (staff will confirm scheduling and compliance with open-meeting law) and members volunteered to participate as panelists or audience members if desired.
