“Their goal is to provide internships, provide hands on experience for students entering the workforce,” the committee report said. Superintendent Butler said he and board members toured Edison’s West and that district staff will continue discussions and a follow-up tour of the Fletcher Building. Butler noted the programs include maritime training and described potential day rates cited during the presentation — roughly $850 per day for crewmen and up to about $900 per day for certain boat operators, as relayed in the committee report.
Board members who visited the facility described it as more than a boat company — a technical training campus with multiple program options — and encouraged colleagues to visit. The committee recommended several policy updates during the same report; those items were considered separately and approved.
The district said next steps include the scheduled tour and continued planning to identify space and program alignments at local career centers and high schools.
