The finance committee approved a parks and recreation budget amendment and agreed to forward a foundation donation to the Marietta Center for council consideration.
Staff explained the parks item would increase the general fund appropriation by a modest amount to cover event-related expenses and capital carryovers from the prior year. Separately, staff said the Marietta Center had received an $8,000 check from a foundation and asked council to accept the funds into the Marietta fund account to support education initiatives and programing.
Committee members asked for confirmation that the expenditure classification and any restrictions on the donation were appropriate; staff said the funds would be used for educational materials, event support and similar items and that there was precedent for accepting such donations into the city fund. A motion to move the budget amendment and to forward the donation for council approval was made, seconded and passed on consent.
No formal contract or ordinance was adopted at the committee meeting; staff said any acceptances would be processed through the regular council agenda at the next regular meeting.
