Polk County staff told commissioners that a petition was filed by Wagner Farms requesting abandonment of a historical stretch of County Ditch No. 70 that formerly crossed Section 27 of Roan Township.
Staff explained the ditch appears absent on 1939 aerial photos and that landowners have filled portions of the ditch over time; staff recommended the board set a formal abandonment hearing. The board agreed and set the hearing for June 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., to occur immediately after the board forum.
Staff said it will bring construction maps and hydrology data to the hearing so commissioners can review how drainage now flows and why the abandonment is proposed. The board indicated it will conduct the hearing and then vote on any abandonment order after the public record is established.
