Allen County commissioners review insurance claims, personnel matters and administrative items

County staff briefed the Board of Allen County Commissioners on multiple administrative matters on March 31, including insurance claims, appointments, procurement and ARPA-fund review.
Sofia Clifton provided the staff update: CORSA HR training is scheduled for Sept. 16 and she said a reimbursement of approximately $1,000 for doctor dispositions in a BWC tick-bite claim will be returned. Clifton said Sedgwick and county legal counsel advised the commissioners to appeal a current workers' compensation claim that staff suspects may be fraudulent because the injury reportedly occurred outside of work; an independent medical exam will be required and commissioners agreed to move forward with an appeal.
Staff discussed a builders-risk insurance claim for water damage at the Government Center building that has been submitted to CORSA; Jason Patchet will provide a further update to commissioners on Thursday. Mark Evans of Bricker & Graydon said he is preparing documents to solicit sealed proposals for millwork and will receive specifications from Jason Patchet; Evans is also drafting a Request for Qualifications for courthouse renovations and will accept feedback from Clerk Brittany N. Woods.
Commissioners agreed to seek reappointment paperwork for Tara Joyce to continue on the Allen Water District Board and instructed Brittany Woods to place a resolution on a future agenda for formal approval. Woods also will coordinate a time with John Willamowski Jr. to schedule deliberation on the Wiltsie'Beckner annexation and review related materials. Susan Wildermuth said capital request emails have been distributed and continues work on the ARPA fund revenue worksheet.
Commissioner Brian Winegardner approved hiring a temporary kennel technician at the Dog Warden's request. Commissioner Beth Seibert said the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board requested moving Amber Martin from a state representative seat to a county seat; commissioners agreed to make the county appointment. A prior request from the Guardian Services Board for $10,000 was noted for further discussion.
No formal policy changes or appropriations were recorded during this portion of the session; several items will return to the board for formal agenda action.
