Council member Anderson told the Vienna Town Council Feb. 24 that the proposed casino bill his office and local groups opposed "died pretty quietly in a committee" after having passed the Senate.
Anderson credited local organizing and a coalition of civic associations, including the Reston Citizens Association, Rescue Reston and the McLean Citizens Association, for work in Richmond. "We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to a number of other civic associations in our area ... together with the town of Vienna formed the coalition," he said, and singled out several local officials and civic leaders for their efforts.
Anderson warned the council the battle may not be over: "Tens of millions of dollars have been spent by the other side to fight this issue, and I fully expect that it's gonna come up again," he said, and asked residents to be prepared to re-engage.
The mayor and other council members thanked Anderson and the coalition members for their work.
