Vienna council adopts updates to Chapter 18 of the town code

The Vienna Town Council unanimously adopted advertised amendments to Chapter 18 of the town code on Feb. 24, following a staff presentation of final red-line edits and definitions.
Planning staff and Director of Planning and Zoning David Levy said the changes are largely clarifications and technical edits rather than increases to permitted lot-coverage quantities. "We did not change the quantity of what would be permitted under any of these categories of lot coverage," Levy told the council. The amendments also refine the definition of a deck and align certain standards with Fairfax County guidance.
Council member Anderson moved to adopt the draft amendments as advertised; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as aye. Staff outlined next steps: a March 10 work session on proposed swimming-pool standards for residential lots, a March 3 work session to finalize parking recommendations stemming from a study, and an April work session on outdoor-lighting recommendations.
Planning staff said additional zoning items will follow later in the year and that any comprehensive-plan-driven rezoning would be considered as part of the broader plan update.
What happens next: staff will prepare the March work-session materials and return with any substantial changes for additional public notice if required by statute.
