The Herriman Planning Commission voted to approve a conditional use permit to relocate existing 345‑kilovolt transmission lines adjacent to the Camp Williams Substation.
Staff explained the proposal re‑routes a short section of line (shown in staff graphics as a red line versus the existing black line) and replaces poles to improve alignment for planned substation expansion. Staff said the application complies with city public‑utility standards and conditional use criteria and noted that city engineering reviewed the plans and had no significant concerns.
A Rocky Mountain Power representative, Richard Bartowskis, explained that some existing poles would be removed and adjacent replacement poles installed to correct conductor angles. "There's an existing pole there... it just has to get replaced," Bartowskis said, adding the work would occur largely on private property owned by the McDougal family and that some poles would shift 5–10 feet from their current location.
Staff recommended two conditions: acknowledge and address agency comments and provide any deliverables requested by the city engineer. After a brief question‑and‑answer period with the applicant, the commission approved the permit with those two recommendations in a recorded voice vote.
The decision allows Rocky Mountain Power to proceed with the pole relocation subject to any outstanding engineering deliverables and agency coordination.
