Howard Young Foundation donates UTV ambulance to Minocqua Fire Department

Minocqua Fire Chief Rich Carani told the Board of Supervisors the Minocqua Fire Department received a donation from the Howard Young Foundation of a new UTV/EMS vehicle and trailer valued at approximately $150,000.
Chief Carani said the vehicle will serve as a rescue ambulance to assist Aspirus EMS responders at remote accident scenes. The UTV will be fully equipped with lights and radios and will be heated to provide patient comfort in cold-weather incidents. The new unit will be kept at Station 1; the department intends to move the current UTV from Station 1 to Station 2 to replace a 30-year-old ATV that is impractical for rescue because it can carry only two people.
Carani noted the vehicle will respond to calls in other jurisdictions as needed under existing mutual-aid agreements. The town will own, maintain and insure the vehicle. The board accepted the donation on a motion by Supervisor Erika Petersen, seconded by Supervisor Billy Fried; the motion carried by voice vote.
