Board approves conditional use permit for The Boathouse with variances and storm-water easement requirement

The Minocqua Board of Supervisors voted April 8 to approve Conditional Use Permit #11-26 for The Boathouse, a redevelopment and expansion of the existing restaurant and outdoor seating at 305 W. Park Avenue.
Applicant F.J. Frazier and representatives for BHMQ LLC presented the proposal; the Plan Commission had recommended approval. During board discussion Mark Pertile, director of public works, said a storm-water easement agreement with the town is required. The board agreed to recognize existing parking, to waive any additional parking requirements, to grant a variance for one parking turning radius and to waive the 5-foot setback requirement, contingent on establishing the storm-water easement. The board noted it considers The Boathouse a significant historical and cultural site; the liquor license will be held by the town until the project is complete.
An architect for the project indicated the county might deny the conditional-use application and the applicant may need to seek relief from the Board of Adjustment; the town members offered assistance at the county level. The board approved the CUP with the notations listed in the Plan Commission recommendation on a motion by Supervisor Billy Fried, seconded by Supervisor Erika Petersen; voice vote carried.
