Autauga County Commission approves opioid settlement, jail remediation change order and a slate of personnel actions

The Autauga County Commission met April 21, 2026, and unanimously approved a set of routine and substantive actions, including an opioid settlement with Associated Pharmacies Inc., additional remediation work at the Autauga County Jail, and multiple personnel moves.
Commissioner Bill Tatum moved to approve an opioid settlement with Associated Pharmacies Inc. and others; Commissioner Rusty Jacksland seconded the motion, which the commission carried by unanimous vote. The motion authorized the vice-chairman to enter into the settlement on behalf of the commission.
The commission also approved change order #7 for cleaning and remediation (phase 2) of the Autauga County Jail. Commissioner Rusty Jacksland made the motion and Commissioner Terry Tanner seconded; the motion carried unanimously, authorizing the contractor change order as presented.
The commission adopted a proclamation recognizing May 2026 as Bike Month in Autauga County, encouraging residents to participate in bicycling events and promoting safety education; the proclamation noted participation by groups including the Autauga Bicycle Club and the League of American Bicyclists.
On routine financial and personnel business, commissioners unanimously approved the minutes of the April 7, 2026 meeting and authorized warrants for invoices received through April 21, 2026. The consent docket approved permission for probate personnel to attend the Alabama Probate Judges Summer Conference (Aug. 2–5, 2026, Gulf Shores) and established a six-month probation period for Engineering employee David Powell (DOH: Oct. 27, 2025).
The commission approved a $1,000 donation to Central Alabama Crimestoppers to support the deputy/cop splash booth at Prattville Cityfest on May 2, 2026.
Several personnel actions were approved by unanimous vote: hiring Lonnie Achtemeier as part-time courthouse security (pending background and drug test) to replace Ellis Owens; promoting Chasne Collins from corporal to sergeant effective April 21, 2026; promoting Mary Patterson and Micheal Tuno from correction officer to corporal effective April 21, 2026; hiring Jordan Flowers as a full-time correction officer (pending background and drug test) to replace Landon Stange; accepting the resignation of Gabriella Anglin, part-time license clerk, effective April 3, 2026; and hiring April Yelder-Jordan as part-time driver (pending background and drug test) to replace Charlesalyn Smith.
Commissioner Bill Tatum moved to enter into a contract with Lowndes and Crenshaw counties to house additional inmates; Commissioner Rusty Jacksland seconded. A subsequent motion to withdraw that contract motion was made by Commissioner Tatum and seconded by Commissioner Jacksland; the withdrawal carried unanimously, so no contract was authorized.
The commission also voted to apply for a FY2027 congressionally directed spending request for infrastructure and construction with an 80/20 match, a step that would seek federal-directed funds subject to future approvals.
The meeting adjourned at 5:19 p.m.; commissioners set the next regular meeting for Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
