The Botetourt County School Board received a presentation on the proposed 05/2027 school budget during a March 19 work session and scheduled a public hearing for March 31, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., after which the board plans to vote on the proposal.
Mr. Lee, the division's director of finance, told the board there is "no new information from the state" and clarified that the "governor's proposal" included in the packet is actually the prior governor's budget proposal, not a new state update. He said staff added a fuel-cost line to the draft and increased the operations/purchase service line by $20,000 to cover playground mulching the county will no longer perform.
Board members discussed health insurance costs reflected in the draft budget. The board also welcomed and thanked Walter Michael and Linda Rotman of the Board of Supervisors for attending and asking questions during the session. Chair Anna L. Weddell announced the public hearing and stated the board will vote on the proposed 05/2027 budget following that hearing.
The work session opened at 8:30 a.m. and adjourned at 9:27 a.m. The board listed members Anna L. Weddell, Dana McCaleb and Matt East as present and Tim Davidick as absent. The public hearing on the proposed 05/2027 budget is set for 5:30 p.m. on March 31, 2026, at the division office; the board will take a vote after that hearing.
