Superintendent reports budget priorities, VPI compliance and new GRASP partnership; youth risk survey presented

Assistant Superintendent Jordan Pinkard delivered the superintendent's report at the Nov. 13 meeting of the Botetourt County School Board, outlining budget and program items and several compliance reports.
Pinkard said the budget and finance department distributed budget priority requests for fiscal year 2027 to schools and that the third installment of school instructional funds had been issued. He reported that the fall verification report for the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) was submitted to the Virginia Department of Education and that all Botetourt County Public Schools VPI programs met program requirements.
Pinkard described a new partnership with GRASP to provide trained volunteers and advisors to help students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), including on-site and virtual advising sessions. He also reported that the division submitted its annual pupil transportation report to the Virginia Department of Education and submitted accessibility findings and recommendations to the Virginia General Assembly as required by HB 2278.
Technology staff participated in Virginia CyberCon cybersecurity training; technicians replaced student computers in elementary school libraries and the network administrator replaced two Aruba ClearPass servers that control user and device access. The health services department hosted a School Health Advisory Board meeting and is coordinating cardiac emergency response drills with Botetourt County Fire and EMS.
Separately, youth risk behavior survey results were presented by Sheila Lithgow of Blue Ridge Behavioral Health, Megan Cook (SAP counselor at Lord Botetourt High School) and Hanan Hammonds (SAP counselor at James River High School).
