Planning commission appoints Larry Wynn to Jefferson County Board of Zoning Appeals

The Jefferson County Planning Commission voted May 6 to appoint Commissioner Larry Wynn to serve as the county's representative on the Board of Zoning Appeals, after Chair announced that Ginny Beverly had resigned from the planning commission and from the county's BZA seat.

Chair opened the meeting, confirmed a quorum and asked for approval of the April 7 minutes, which the commission approved by voice vote. The chair then announced Beverly's resignation and said the planning commission must name one of its eligible members to the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). The chair said he had spoken with eligible members, and that Wynn had agreed to accept the appointment if chosen.

At the meeting a commissioner moved to appoint Larry Wynn to the BZA, the motion was seconded and the commission approved it by voice vote. The meeting transcript records several ayes but does not attach individual vote names to the tally.

The chair also told the commission there is an additional vacancy to replace a member identified as Jenny and noted that the county commissioner's appointment will fill that seat. He reminded the commission that county rules require political balance: the prospective planning commissioner must be a registered Democrat and may not hold another elected or appointed political office. He said appointees must live within the county's zoning jurisdiction or own property there to be eligible.

No ordinance change or formal follow-up action on the BZA appointment was recorded beyond the vote. The commission adjourned after concluding business for the evening.
