Adams County economic development updates: Cherry Fork sewer, welcome center, Kirker Bridge and dog shelter progress

Economic Development Director Paul Worley updated the board on a set of county projects during the Nov. 24 meeting, describing progress on infrastructure, business retention and local workforce training.
Worley said construction on the Cherry Fork sewer project continues and noted a recent site invoice was included in the bills presented to the board. He reported a Nov. 19 visit to Danson Wood Pellets in Peebles, a facility with 50 full-time employees that produces Pit Boss brand pellets and is exploring expansion.
On county facilities, Worley said the Adams County Welcome Center had a water line installed last week and sidewalk construction was scheduled for the following week. At the Adams County Training Center, seven Little Loaves sourdough classes have run successfully; a State Tested Nurse Aide class is scheduled to test out on Dec. 5, and an "Ignite Bootcamp Pitch Night" is scheduled for Nov. 25 at 6:00 p.m. Worley also noted a House Bill 540 kickoff meeting scheduled for Dec. 10 at 10:00 a.m. and a Township Trustees meeting for Dec. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
Commissioner Kelly Jones provided an update on the new Adams County Dog & Kennel Shelter: Vinyl Tech is manufacturing the remaining indoor kennels this week, the perimeter fence is installed, and internet and phone installation remain under construction. Jones emphasized that Adams County does not perform commercial construction inspections; those are completed by the State of Ohio Department of Commerce and the Certificate of Occupancy is issued by the State once inspections pass.
Resident Chris Hicks interrupted to question adherence to the agenda schedule, saying, "The agenda hangs in the foyer and states tentative at the top of the page." Commissioners said schedule adjustments resulted from staff illness and last-minute changes.
Next steps: Economic Development and county staff will proceed with scheduled construction and program dates; the board indicated the FreedomLinx representative would be invited to a future meeting to discuss cybersecurity requirements under House Bill 96.
