Board approves first readings of multiple policies; two items pulled from consent for discussion

A motion to approve Policy 445 on first reading passed. - Policy 711: Lineweaver said the update modernized language (removing archaic "shall" phrasing) to align with VSBA recommendations; the board approved first reading. - Policy 461: Presented as a new policy required by state law; board members confirmed the regulation covers earlier concerns about outdoor heat exposure for non-athletic activities and approved it on first reading. - Policy 719: Title and scope wording were changed from "vocational education" to "career and technical education" to reflect state guidance; the board approved first reading. - School-library policy: Staff recommended adopting VSBA language and the board approved it on first reading.
