Council directs staff to pursue easements for Mid Lane pump-station repairs after months of public debate

The Lexington Fayette Urban County Council on April 30 directed staff to open negotiations and take preliminary steps toward implementing a pump-station project at the existing Mid (Mint) Lane location adjacent to Dunbar High School, voting 10–5 to authorize the Division of Water Quality to pursue easements and related actions.

The vote follows weeks of public comment and a technical presentation from acting commissioner Charlie Martin, who summarized engineering findings comparing the Dunbar/Mid Lane rehabilitation, a downstream Bowman's Mill option and an airport alternative. "If you do exactly the same it is $5,000,000" more at Bowman Mill for an apples-to-apples build, Martin said in his slide-backed briefing while also flagging greater geotechnical and flood‑plain risks at the Dunbar site.

Public commentators at the meeting were sharply divided.
