Litchfield council OKs surplus of older police vehicles and approves AED grant application and budget amendment

LITCHFIELD, Ky. — The Litchfield City Council approved requests from Chief Riley to declare older police vehicles and outdated equipment surplus and to apply for a mini‑grant to buy additional automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Chief Riley told the council two 2014 Dodge Chargers have accrued mileage and mechanical issues and have been used as spares; he recommended declaring those and other items (three computer monitors, older cameras used at the animal shelter and other outdated equipment) surplus. "They're not being used very much now... some of it doesn't even work," Chief Riley said. Council moved and approved surplusing the listed items.
Chief Riley also said the police department has one AED and seeks three so there is one on each shift. He said bids received were roughly $2,480 for two AEDs and that the grant, if funded, would allow purchase of three units. Council approved submission of the mini‑grant application to Owensboro Health / Twin Lakes Medical Center and separately approved a motion to amend the budget to include the anticipated revenue and expense.
What’s next: Staff will dispose of surplus items per city policy and, if the grant is awarded, will complete the AED purchase and update the budget accordingly.
