The Lee County Commission approved a highway-department recommendation on April 27 to award a local road-striping contract to CNH Construction Services LLC for $289,082.50.
County highway staff (Mr. Hardy) said the work covers about 129.9 miles in the northeastern portion of the county (north and east of Highway 280, east of U.S. Highway 431 and north of Opelika). Two bids were received: JLD Enterprises at $308,250.99 and CNH Construction Services LLC at $289,082.50. Staff recommended the lower bid because both bids were within the projected budget.
Commissioners discussed how not every mile will have the same scope: some segments will receive only center-line striping, others will receive center and edge lines, and some will also receive raised pavement markers. One commissioner calculated an approximate per-mile cost from the low bid, estimating about $2,250 per mile.
A motion to approve the highway department's recommendation was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally or additional contract terms such as a start date or completion timeline.
