Lee County honors Smith Station firefighters for life-saving March response

Lee County commissioners recognized Smith Station Fire Protection District personnel and Lee County Sheriff's Office responders on April 27 for their quick response to a March 20 structure fire that resulted in a rescued victim.
A presenter read a timeline of the response: units arrived between 07:19 and 07:31, forced entry into a secured structure, located a victim just inside the front door, and provided advanced life support and transport. The presenter called forward and recognized Lieutenant Jeffrey Godfrey, EMT Angel Page, Firefighter Augustus Dunfrey, Chief Blake Green, Lieutenant Thomas Eden, Levi Jernigan and Hunter Smith.
"Somebody's family is home tonight because of y'all," the chair said during the recognition, and the presenter thanked the crew for putting their lives on the line for local citizens.
The presenter noted the patient was transported to a local hospital and, to the presenter's understanding, has recovered fully. The recognition included photographs and public thanks from the commission.
