Council voted to authorize a contract with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City for staffing Eagle Harbor Aquatic Center from May 29 through Aug. 30, 2026, in an amount not to exceed $49,000, and authorized the mayor to sign the agreement. During the discussion council members said the partnership should help ensure the pool opens on time this summer.
On parks surfacing, staff described options including poured-in-place surfacing and rubber mulch. A public-works representative explained that pour-in-place surfacing can provide a consistent protective drop height but carries a significantly higher up-front cost; the rubber mulch being purchased protects from larger drop heights at a lower near-term cost and can be installed around existing equipment. “The difference with the mats and the mulch…rubber mulch protects from 12 to 17 feet,” a staff member said while answering council questions about longevity, weed control and installation lead time.
Council members asked staff to consider pour-in-place options for future park upgrades but approved the current rubber-mulch purchase to address immediate safety needs. The motion to approve the purchase and to authorize signatures carried on a unanimous vote.
What happens next: Staff will place the order (lead time reported as roughly four weeks) and coordinate installation and weed control measures; the manager and council will continue evaluating longer-term pour-in-place options for future park projects.
