Commission asks staff to draft wording adding taxidermy, mortuary and crematorium to permitted-use matrix

At the end of the April 7 meeting staff raised a proposed edit to the Permitted Use Matrix to add a specific reference to taxidermy in certain zones and to include the words "mortuary" and "crematorium" under the heading "Death Care Services" to improve searchability. Justin Lewis said there is no pending taxidermy proposal but staff felt it appropriate to add the term to the matrix and to list the zones where it might be allowed. Commissioners agreed with the recommendation in principle but discussed potential neighborhood concerns, such as odors and how conditional-use permitting and mitigating conditions could address them. Resident Ryan Palmer said he was concerned about taxidermy or similar activities occurring in residential yards. Staff said that if changes are proposed an ordinance would be drafted and returned for a future public hearing and vote.
