Homeowner urges Rockdale County to prevent possible HOA water cutoff in Callaway Crossings

Homeowner Kiani Sutherland told the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners on March 24 that residents of Callaway Crossings fear their water will be shut off because of unpaid HOA accounts. "We wanna know directly if the water would actually be cut off tomorrow," Sutherland said during the public-comment period.

County staff said the water account for the subdivision is held by the homeowners association and that staff has been communicating with HOA leaders, including Carl Rogers and Kelly Griffin. The chair told Sutherland that additional payments had been made recently and county staff scheduled further conversations with the HOA to seek a resolution.

The county also said it had reached out to Partnership for Community Action as a potential source of relief for delinquent accounts, and provided the agency's contact information; staff noted any assistance would depend on that nonprofit's available funding. The chair offered to provide Sutherland with contact information after the meeting and to continue follow-up.

The board did not take formal action during public comment. County staff said they will continue communications with the HOA and explore options to avoid service disruption for residents. Sutherland also said the HOA’s internal communication and a contested board election have complicated residents' ability to get timely updates.

Next step: staff indicated a 12:00 follow-up with HOA representatives later that day and will report back to affected residents based on those discussions.
