Washington County commissioners approve routine motions, budget transfers and local project supports

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of routine motions and funding changes at its Jan. 29, 2026, meeting, including a resolution extending the county’s dog-license renewal period and several budget transfers and appropriations.
Commissioners Charlie L. Schilling (president), Eddie D. Place (vice president) and Ronald G. Nohe (member) voted unanimously to adopt a resolution extending the dog-license renewal deadline to Feb. 2, 2026, after noting that the statutory Jan. 31 cutoff fell on a Saturday. The board cited Ohio Revised Code 955.01(A)(1) in adopting the extension.
The board approved additional appropriations of $166,059 to a Transit Grant account and $10,000 and $20,000 to two sewer accounts. It also approved transfers totaling $240,176.13, including a $183,168.58 transfer from the Budget Stabilization fund. JFS Director Flite Freimann said the County Home levy revenue remains flat and "the advance of funds is needed until taxes are received in March or April." President Schilling commended the County Home’s resident care.
The board approved three Then & Now certificates, authorized payment of a $33.54 late fee for the Board of Developmental Disabilities, and approved travel and training reimbursements for staff across departments, including Building Department official Rick Dostal’s attendance at an ICC leadership academy.
Commissioners also approved letters of support for Silvertide Apartments’ Low-Income Housing Tax Credit application and for House of Hope’s Bolger Foundation application to fund building improvements aimed at expanding dining space and improving handicap accessibility.
Separately, the board approved a $6,176.56 change order for the WV Elevator courthouse elevator project to cover lost hours due to noise shutdowns and remobilization after the contractor submitted a revised amount the commissioners found acceptable.
The meeting closed with announcements of upcoming public events and a Route 7 Sewer Project stakeholder meeting scheduled for Feb. 12 in the Commissioners Assembly Room.
