Planning commission approves 10 parking spaces for Driftwood Lodge with conditions

The Springdale Planning Commission on May 6 approved a design development review to add 10 parking spaces to the Driftwood Lodge at 1515 Zion Park Boulevard.

Staff introduced the application and said the spaces would serve hotel customers and that the submitted plans comply with the town code. Contractor Tony Brooksby was present to answer questions. During deliberation commissioners asked staff to confirm that the March 2025 erosion‑hazard approval still applies; staff said the mitigation lies riverward of the new lot and no new erosion‑hazard assessment is required.

The commission attached three conditions to the approval: the concrete color must match the town‑approved color palette (Davis color number 5084 or a preapproved equal alternative), compliance of the proposed parking light fixtures must be verified prior to project completion, and staff encouraged replacing non‑native landscape species cited in the plan (pampas grass and gray‑leaf cotoneaster) with native alternatives. The motion cited compliance with the town code sections listed in the staff report and passed by voice vote.

Staff recorded that no members of the public signed up to speak during the public‑hearing period. The applicant may proceed with design details subject to the listed conditions and final code compliance verification by staff.
