Building and Grounds: commissioners authorize up-to-$8,000 safe purchases, direct temporary sinkhole fix and schedule courthouse design RFQ discussion

At the Board of Commissioners meeting March 5, Building and Grounds lead Jason Patchet updated the board on facilities projects including the Clerk of Courts relocation, a parking-lot sinkhole and the Vandemark Building.
Patchet said vendors quoted up to $8,287.12 to move the existing Clerk of Courts safe and offered a two-hour fire‑rated safe priced at $1,189.56. The Treasurer and Auditor had requested similar safes for the Government Center; commissioners asked Patchet to get pricing for five safes and authorized him to proceed with purchases up to $8,000. Commissioners also directed a temporary repair of a sinkhole in a county parking lot until the Vandemark Building is demolished and the lot is fully redone.
The board asked Clerk Brittany Woods to schedule a meeting with Mark Evans to discuss a Request for Qualifications for a design professional on the Courthouse project. Patchet said he would follow up with vendors on pricing and shipping for safe purchases.
Separately, Building Department representative Doug Ditto reported a WORTH Center certificate of occupancy was unsigned and listed an incorrect address; Ditto said a special inspection would be completed and a corrected occupancy certificate issued. Ditto also said new state legislation on plan reviews would not change his department’s review process.
