Athens County commissioners approve DJFS contracts, appoint Erin Bright to Children Services Board

The Board of Athens County Commissioners on March 25 approved multiple contracts for the Department of Job and Family Services and appointed Erin Bright to the Athens County Children Services Board.
At a regular session presided over by President Lenny Eliason, commissioners voted 2–0 (Commissioner Chris Chmiel recorded absent) to appoint Erin Bright, MSW, LISW, to the Children Services Board through Dec. 31, 2029. The board also approved DJFS contracts with county offices and vendors, including a $232,447.85 contract with the Athens County Sheriff (Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026), a $389,985.53 contract with the Athens County Prosecuting Attorney (Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026), and a $123,727.57 contract with the Athens County Clerk of Courts (Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026). An agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management was also approved and placed on file.
DJFS Director Jean Demosky presented weekly performance updates and distributed packet data to commissioners, calling out cash-on-hand figures and key performance indicators compiled at the request of an absent commissioner. Demosky and staff discussed ongoing facility and environmental assessments and noted that the department had higher call volumes than comparison counties while maintaining a strong answer rate.
Commissioners and DJFS staff discussed the role of Maximus in service-of-process work and juvenile court contracts; Jason Terry (fiscal department) said Maximus had expressed willingness to assume additional service work but might request amended contract language. The board entered executive session with Director Demosky to discuss employment matters and returned to open session with no action taken.
In separate routine business, the board adopted retirement resolutions honoring Tina Jenkins and Debbie Conant, both retiring effective March 31, 2026, and recorded its approvals of required county bill payments and financial transactions.
The board did not set additional action items derived from the DJFS presentation at the meeting; staff were directed to continue compiling performance materials and to advance contract paperwork as authorized.
