Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network offers local trainings, seeks partnership with Desert Hot Springs

Mitch Brown, president of the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network (CVDPN), briefed the council on the group’s volunteer-run preparedness programs and asked the city to partner on outreach and material support.
Brown said CVDPN is an all‑volunteer nonprofit that provided more than 5,000 volunteer hours last year (estimated $200,000 in community value) and recorded about 2,450 volunteer hours in the first four months of the current year. He described bilingual, in-person personal preparedness classes, a "how to build a community disaster plan" workshop, Stop the Bleed training (delivered with Desert Hot Springs High School Public Safety Academy cadets) and other programs such as watch-your-step, active-shooter training in partnership with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and hands-only CPR with the American Red Cross.
Brown said the organization has trained roughly 13,000 people valley-wide since 2023 and suggested the Desert Hot Springs Health and Wellness Center as a venue for larger local trainings. He requested that the city promote upcoming training events on the city website, newsletter and social media and consider modest funding to support training materials.
Mayor and staff thanked CVDPN for its work and signaled interest in exploring partnership opportunities.
