Board committees approve new local courses and add discounted youth-user category for facility rentals

In Finance and Human Resources, staff presented an update to policy KG (community public use of school facilities) to add a new "User Group 6" classification for nonprofit youth programs with a majority of Berkeley County students. Risk manager Linda Holbrook and staff described the change as intended to make facilities more accessible to organizations serving students while preserving maintenance and janitorial procedures; the district will use the Facilitron platform to manage requests and include verification and an audit feature for rosters and insurance compliance.
Committee members discussed implementation details — who pays for cleanup, concession stand rental rules, food vendors and DHEC compliance — and encouraged the administration to keep the process usable for long-standing community partners while retaining necessary safeguards. Both committee items passed on committee voice votes (committee tallies recorded in the transcript).
