Washington County commissioners approve routine business, recognize Ohio Loves Transit Week and honor building official

The Washington County Board of Commissioners handled routine business and a few recognitions during its Feb. 5 meeting.
The board approved the meeting agenda, dispensed with the reading of the Jan. 29 minutes and approved the list of bills for payment. It also approved four Then & Now Certificates and several travel reimbursement requests, including a Children Services required visit to Nelsonville on Feb. 23.
The commissioners adopted a resolution recognizing Feb. 16–20, 2026 as Ohio Loves Transit Week. Julia Hinzman of Buckeye Hills said the organization will advocate for public transit at the Statehouse on Feb. 17. Commissioner Charlie L. Schilling said transit is "a necessary public service," and the commissioners expressed appreciation for transit agencies.
Commissioner Schilling also presented Rick Dostal, Chief Building Official, with a plaque recognizing him as the 2025 Building Code Official of the Year from the Central Ohio Code Officials Association and commended the Building Department for positive community feedback. The meeting adjourned at 9:16 a.m.
