Washington County approves plans and bid specs for Hune Covered Bridge rehabilitation

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 5 approved plans and bid specifications for the Hune Covered Bridge Rehabilitation Project, moving the project toward a scheduled bid opening on March 3, 2026.
County Engineer Roger Wright presented the plans and an engineer’s estimate of $1,678,842, saying the project will be funded by the Transportation Alternative Program and the Buckeye Hills Regional Council Rural Transportation Planning Organization. Wright said local funds needed are estimated at $74,219, and that Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has provided federal authorization to bid. He said the restored structure will be for pedestrians only and "will not be open to traffic."
Commissioner Eddie D. Place moved to approve the plans and bid specifications; Commissioner Ronald G. Nohe seconded the motion. The board voted unanimously in favor (Charlie L. Schilling aye; Eddie D. Place aye; Ronald G. Nohe aye).
The county clerk’s office filed the bid specifications and will accept bids at the bid opening on March 3 at 9 a.m. The commissioners did not provide further detail at the meeting about construction timing beyond the bid schedule.
