Atchison County commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation on May 5 recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month and encouraging residents to seek support for behavioral health needs.
The county read a proclamation that highlighted the role of early intervention, prevention and access to behavioral health services, and the board voted 3-0 to adopt it and allow the chair to sign the document.
After the vote Guidance Center staff introduced themselves and described local services. Ada Euler, a Guidance Center clinician, said she has worked with the organization for more than two decades and summarized school-based programs and a 10-week summer youth program: “I've been with the Guidance Center 23 plus years. I'm stationed at Central School, so I work in partnership with USD 409,” she said. Natalie Ward, who supervises youth and adult community-based services, said the Guidance Center serves the entire county and has expanded adult psychosocial supports: “We serve the entire county,” Ward said, describing case management, attendant care and recent expansion of adult programs.
County staff invited the Guidance Center to join a photo for outreach and said they would share the proclamation on county social media and the website to promote community awareness of behavioral health services.
