The Board of Mayor and Aldermen authorized the police department to apply for a Tennessee Highway Safety Office reimbursement grant to support impaired‑driving enforcement.
A police representative (S5) described the grant as state funded with no city match and said it pays officer overtime for DUI enforcement. "This is a no cost to the city, and this is something we get every year," the police speaker said. At one point a speaker (S14) stated, "This year is in the amount of $35,700," while an earlier line in the record had said "$5,700," creating a discrepancy in the transcript. The clerk recorded a unanimous yes on the authorization.
The department said similar grants have funded dedicated overtime enforcement for several years; the city will apply for the reimbursement grant and execute the usual grant administration steps if awarded.
