The chair said the Marietta City Council will consider appointments for the prosecuting attorney and for a newly created chief assistant prosecuting attorney at the council's 7:00 meeting. "We have appointment for prosecuting attorney and also have appointment of the chief assistant prosecuting attorney, which is a brand new position," the chair said during the agenda-review session.
A staff member and the chair said the council could approve an ordinance later in the meeting to formalize the position and that the staff would include a brief explanation of the reason for creating the role. One councilmember pressed for a formal vote: "I'd like a formal vote," the member said, indicating a preference not to approve the appointment informally during the agenda review.
No formal appointment vote or ordinance adoption occurred during the agenda-review session; the item was placed on the 7:00 full meeting agenda for consideration and potential action. The staff indicated the item will return with the appropriate materials and a suggested motion for council action at that meeting.
