Sheriff reports major drug seizure; county staff and community groups announce local assistance and events

Sheriff Mark Warden told the Board of Commissioners on Nov. 13 that a deputy’s traffic stop recently removed more than 600 grams of drugs from the street and that law enforcement has formed a six‑county coalition. "A deputy conducted a traffic stop that took over 600 grams of drugs off the street," Sheriff Warden said, and he said the coalition is seeking congressional spending to equip patrol cars with cameras.

County Engineer Roger Wright updated the board on the Devola Sewer Project, saying only 26 yards remain needing final restoration in the spring. Cindy Davis of Family & Children First announced a Poverty Simulation Training on Nov. 18 at the K of C Building and said registration information is on the Family & Children First website. Flite Freimann, director of Job & Family Services, said federal funding actions led to partial SNAP payments in November with full payments expected in December and offered JFS assistance for residents in need.

Betsy Cook of Living Democracy raised concerns about water safety and urged opposition to more brine-waste disposal; she invited commissioners to a Dec. 3 Armory meeting and thanked Commissioner Schilling for sharing the county’s Safe Water Plan. Jim Abbott of Warren Water said some people are experiencing natural gas shortages that he tied to injection well migration.
