Council hears first reading of BRE Main Street deal; rezoning proposed for three Main Street parcels

Councilor Kimberly Farr on March 10 read a resolution authorizing negotiations for a development agreement with BRE Main Street LLC and urged residents to view a three-minute video by Mayor Ben Short and Councilor Brian Jackson explaining the proposal.
Councilor Brian Jackson said the proposed deal would obligate the developer, if the agreement is approved at a future meeting, to widen the northern end of Watterson Parkway to add dedicated turn lanes and make other traffic-flow improvements along Main Street. Jackson also gave an introductory first reading of an ordinance to rezone 331, 333 and 401 Main Street from I-1 (Light Industrial) and PUD (Planned Unit Development) to Q-C-2 (Qualified General Commercial).
The item had an introductory reading only; councilors did not take a final vote on the development agreement or the rezoning on March 10. Councilor Farr asked the public to review the mayor and councilor video explaining the proposal. The rezoning and any related agreements will return for subsequent readings and public hearings as required by local ordinance and state law.
