Adams County EMS reports staffing gaps and high ambulance costs; board approves volunteer driver

Adams County EMS Chief Dusty McCleese briefed the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 about staffing, vehicle and facility needs and asked the board to inspect a potential replacement vehicle.
Chief McCleese reported 94 runs during the reporting period, said the county has four full-time openings with 52 employees across stations and described ongoing maintenance challenges including a rear-end part delay and an unrepairable furnace at Station 500. He told the board that new ambulances cost roughly $400,000 and that ordered units are on a waitlist. Chief McCleese asked commissioners to view a potential vehicle in Turtle Creek Township.
Following the report, the board approved the volunteer employment of William White as a volunteer driver effective Feb. 16, 2026 (Resolution No. 2026-067). The meeting record shows the motion passed on roll call.
What’s next: EMS will continue recruiting and processing volunteer onboarding; the county will evaluate vehicle replacement options and process any procurement or maintenance work through normal channels.
