Norton officials seek answers after Ridge Avenue wall collapse; Virginia Energy on site

City Manager Jeffery A. Shupe said Virginia Energy was onsite and the city was awaiting a response and report; he added that Delegate Terry Kilgore had been notified and "would be looking into the situation on the city's behalf." Councilman Chris Jones asked whether more rock had fallen, and Vice Mayor Mark Caruso urged staff to present preservation options because the wall is historic. Mayor Joseph Fawbush said he was anxious to get answers and would prefer to save the wall if possible.
Council discussed the city's retail sales decline and the importance of tourism tied to reopening High Knob and other attractions, but gave no formal direction at the meeting beyond asking staff to pursue reports and updates from Virginia Energy and other parties.
