Commissioners adopt ordinance restricting trucks on specified county roads during INDOT detours

The ordinance lists road segments by name (for example, State Line Road between County Road 300 N and County Road 400 S; Division Road between the Portland city limits and County Road 600 E; County Road 50 W between State Highway 18 and County Road 650 N) and states that trucks, truck-tractors and semitrailers are prohibited from using those sections during official detours. The restriction applies only while an INDOT official detour is in effect.
Commissioner Duane Monroe noted a recent incident where a semi-trailer parked near a wind turbine forced vehicles off the roadway and into ditches, causing damage; he said those responsible should pay for repairs. The ordinance is intended to reduce similar impacts by preventing detour traffic from using sensitive county roads.
