The council held a show-cause hearing concerning the possible revocation of the business license for XS Ultra Lounge at 3420 Atlanta Highway. Attorney Joe Reed (speaker 15) and owner Eduardo Brown (speaker 17) responded to a city report alleging multiple police calls to the address. Reed said the list of calls was inflated and, after review, showed duplications and incidents not tied to the business; he summarized his review as reducing an initial claim of 28 calls to roughly 15 calls and said only a handful involved shots fired. "Out of those 15 calls, there's a laundry list of police characterizations... some were walk-and-talks and legal conduct," Reed told the council.
Neighbors and at least one council member representing nearby districts said residents hear gunfire and are concerned about the parking-lot and surrounding neighborhood disturbances. A council member (speaker 12) — whose district sits across the street — described calls about loud vehicles and gunfire reported by constituents. The owner and his representatives said the business primarily operates Friday and Saturday nights and that security procedures and state inspections (including ABC and state police) had found no ongoing violations.
The council did not make a final decision. The council carried the item for two weeks to allow the council member to be present and to return for a final vote on May 19, giving the owner and staff an opportunity to provide additional information for the record.
