Sanitary engineer to explore takeover request; county notified of two Ohio EPA funding awards

Allen County Sanitary Engineer Brad Niemeyer informed the Board of Commissioners that a local community has asked the county to take over its sewer and wastewater treatment operations, describing the system as having roughly 2,842 customers, 75%–80% combined sewers and an existing industrial pretreatment program.
Commissioners indicated they were comfortable with Niemeyer continuing to explore the feasibility and potential revenue implications of such a takeover. Niemeyer and Bill Horvath presented the operational snapshot and said further analysis would be required before any formal transfer or acquisition could be considered.
Separately, Niemeyer notified the board of two Ohio Environmental Protection Agency actions contingent on commissioner acceptance: $2 million in principal forgiveness for the Hamlet of Hume project and a $1.6 million 0% loan awarded for the Shawnee Oaks reroute project. Both awards were described as conditional on formal commissioner acceptance of the awards and associated documents.
