Board approves minutes, noxious-weed policy, signage and minor repairs in routine business

Noxious-weed policy: Staff presented Resolution 2026-11, the county’s noxious-weed control policy, citing Chapter 317 of the Iowa Code and Chapter 58 of the Iowa Administrative Code for statutory authority. The resolution lists recommended control dates for two groups of weeds (Group 1 recommended control date 06/21/2026; Group 2 recommended control date 07/19/2026), describes complaint procedures and gives contact information for the weed commissioner, Charles Bigdoll. The board adopted the resolution by roll call.
Summer schedule: The board approved the supervisory summer schedule for June, July and August (second and fourth Tuesdays) by motion and unanimous vote.
Traffic control near Milford school: The county engineer presented a request from the City of Milford to install stop signs and four-way control at the intersection near the new school (320th Street and 213th Avenue). Board members discussed adding lighted/flashing stop signs and public education to acclimate drivers; the board approved the stop-sign installation and instructed staff to notify law enforcement and the public and to consider warning citations during an education period.
DD 48 repairs: The board authorized County forces to hire a contractor to repair tile associated with DD 48 with an estimated cost under $2,500; the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: These routine approvals implement county policies and infrastructure work that affect property owners, traffic safety and county operations. The noxious-weed resolution establishes notification and enforcement procedures that can lead to county abatement at property owner expense if owners do not comply.
Next steps: Staff will publish the notice and complaint procedures for the weed policy, post signage and warnings for the new stop-control locations ahead of school opening, and proceed with contracting for DD 48 repairs.
