Cassandra Booker addressed the commission to report theft, property damage, trespass and a verbal assault she said occurred on a lot she owns in the 1100 block of Broadway. Booker introduced herself as a community stakeholder and a long-time participant in local housing rehabilitation.
"I was victimized by an act of theft, destruction of property, and trespassing on a lot that I own in the 1100 Block Of Broadway," Booker said. She told commissioners the incident included a verbal assault when she attempted to assert ownership and boundaries and alleged the person claimed to be a friend of the mayor and city manager.
Booker asked the commission to address improper behavior regardless of relationships and to ensure that people who hold seats on committees are held to appropriate standards. The mayor and several commissioners responded that they did not condone wrongdoing, noted police reports and email contacts, and said the city attorney and manager's office would follow up.
Booker said she had already filed a police report and that she had emailed commission members and staff to request action. Commissioners thanked her for reporting the matter and said staff would work to address unresolved problems in her ward; no formal commission disciplinary action was taken at the meeting.
