Buchanan County approves $3.56 million bid to replace Cutshall Bridge

County Engineer Alex Davis presented the project, identified in county records as HDP-CO10(116)—6B-10, and explained the board had followed required notifications, hearings and bidding processes under the Code of Iowa. On a motion by Supervisor John Kurtz, seconded by Supervisor Keith Wieland, the board voted “all in favor; motion carried.”
Resolution 26-52 directs county staff to accept the contractor’s bond and certificate of insurance and awards the associated contract to Peterson Contractors Inc. The resolution further designates Jacob Thorius, County Engineer for Washington County, Iowa, to execute the construction contracts on behalf of Buchanan County after the necessary contract documents are received.
The replacement project will occur on Baxter Avenue where it crosses the Wapsipinicon River in Perry Township. County documents included with the resolution specify routine severability language and that the resolution is effective upon approval. The board did not record additional public comment or alternate bids during the session.
Next steps recorded in the resolution require the county to receive the contractor’s bond and insurance certificate before formal contract execution; the board’s action on April 27 constituted final approval to award the work to Peterson Contractors pending those documents.
