Sheriff reports April activity as court proclaims National Public Works Week

At the May 5 meeting, Grant County Sheriff Dennis Switzer reported April public-safety activity and the fiscal court issued a proclamation honoring public works staff.
Switzer told the court the sheriff's office responded to 1,092 calls for service in April, opened 29 criminal investigations and made 37 arrests. The office investigated 14 traffic collisions, issued 132 citations, served 252 criminal and civil summonses, completed 380 vehicle inspections, and logged 2,732 miles on fugitive transports; Switzer said staffing actions for court security are underway, with two candidates completing polygraphs and drug screens and another scheduled for testing.
The court also read and signed a proclamation designating May 17–23, 2026 as National Public Works Week in Grant County to "pay tribute to our public works professionals," and recognized road supervisor Joe Gordon and other road department staff. Tyler Hill, introduced as present from Boone County, thanked the court and praised local public works efforts: "I wanna come up here and thank you guys for taking the time to recognize the hard work that your public works department does for you guys and does for your community," he said.
The court noted written reports from the treasurer, the animal shelter and the building inspector (about 64 permits issued). The judge reminded residents of a hazardous-waste and electronics collection event at Grant County High School on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The meeting adjourned after a motion and second; a special meeting is scheduled for May 20, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
