District recognized by EverFi for mental-health education; counselors and student-athletes honored

At the May 5 School District of Osceola County meeting the district accepted an EverFi declaration recognizing its work to prioritize student resiliency and mental-health education and later honored school counselors and student-athletes for the spring season.
Matt Kerouac, speaking for EverFi, said the partnership — which he said includes the NFL Foundation and HCA Florida — helped provide resilience, mental wellness and prevention education at no cost to the district. Kerouac stated that more than 20,000 Osceola County students received instruction tied to resiliency and mental-health supports during the 2025–26 school year.
The board then presented counselor-of-the-year recognitions. Sarah Schumacher, the district’s coordinator for guidance services, read nominations and described honorees’ work with MTSS processes, school food-bank partnerships, college-and-career support and transition services. The elementary counselor of the year was named as Mr. Sarette; Josephine Rosado and Daisy Ortiz were among other honorees singled out for leadership and direct student support. The presenter emphasized counselors’ roles connecting families to community resources and supporting vulnerable students.
Ryan Adams, coordinator of athletics and driver’s education, led recognition of spring OBC champions across track, track and field, weightlifting, fishing and other sports, noting school and county records and team GPAs. Several teams and individual athletes were acknowledged as advancing to regionals and state competitions.
Next steps: EverFi and district staff joined board members for photographs; no board action was required for the recognitions.
