Panel members from several high schools — including Jada Copeland, Vanessa Quoc, Shana Lee Colon, Amy Flores and others — outlined priorities they worked on during the 2025–26 school year: rebuilding mentorship programs, piloting a PBIS "punch-card" reward system to strengthen school activities and attendance, and reviewing next year’s AI acceptable-use language and the student code of conduct to make them clearer and more student-friendly. Vanessa Quoc said the group focused on "quality over quantity" when improving mentorship programs and emphasized sustainable initiatives.
Students described the punch-card plan as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) initiative to be distributed first to clubs (NHS, PTSA) and expanded after district approvals; each punch corresponds to participation levels and rewards small and larger prizes as cards fill. Representatives noted some schools are already farther along (Celebration High School) and others will require additional work and approval before full implementation.
Superintendent Dr. Shanoff praised the group: "They know so much more than we give them credit for," he said, and thanked facilitators who supported the program. Students said they plan to meet more frequently over the summer to ensure consistent rollout and to provide district leadership with written feedback on how policy changes appear in school practice.
What happens next: Students said they will follow up with staff on policy-feedback items the board referenced and continue meeting over the summer. The advisory group’s work will inform the district’s public-review process ahead of rulemaking and implementation.
