Benton County board approves EMS payments, federal inmate contract and road programs

The Benton County Board of Supervisors on April 28 approved a series of routine claims, contracts and road programs, including EMS Trust Fund disbursements, acknowledgment of a federal inmate housing contract and approval of several Iowa Department of Transportation items.
The board approved EMS Trust Fund claims numbered 257235 through 257238 totaling $56,061.51, distributed as follows: Urbana 1st Responders — $1,312.02; Walford 1st Responders — $7,488.63; Belle Plaine Ambulance — $42,415.28; and Garrison 1st Responders — $4,845.58. Supervisors Ronald Tippett, Tracy Seeman and Bruce Volz voted aye to approve the claims.
The board acknowledged a federal-inmate housing contract between the Benton County Jail and the United States Marshals Service that specifies a per-diem rate of $85.62 for housing federal prisoners.
On transportation items, the board approved the IDOT FY27 Secondary Roads Budget, the IDOT Five-Year FY27–FY31 Secondary Roads Construction Program for Benton County, and the IDOT Pre-Construction Agreement 2026-C0199 for intersection improvements on U.S. Highway 30 to place rumble strips along 26th, 27th, 30th, 32nd and 33rd avenues at an estimated county cost of $10,690.76. The county engineer reminded those present that the dust-control sign-up deadline is Friday, May 1, 2026.
The board also approved a suspended tax list for a set of parcels and authorized the chairman to send a letter to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. A public hearing was set for Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. regarding property owned by Theodore and Lori Burr in Section 28-82-12. The meeting adjourned at 10:03 a.m.
