Liberty County commissioners approve probation contract, road and park contracts, staffing change and animal-control consent order

Roads: The commission voted to accept Williams Road into the county road system after staff reported the county has maintained the road for decades and a landowner offered to dedicate additional right-of-way. Staffing and appointments: The board approved a resolution converting a code enforcement position to full time effective July 1 using existing budgeted funds in the building and license department. Commissioners also approved the appointment of Michelle James as the summer foods coordinator; staff said the recently improved Liberty County Community Complex kitchen will enable hot meals for participants and provide disaster-response capacity.
Procurement: The board approved ordering furniture for the new EMS building after staff said a single vendor, VIP, submitted a lower-than-estimated price ($79,196) and estimated roughly 30 days for delivery.
Animal control consent order: County counsel told the board that operation of the county animal-control facility had been suspended pending an internal review and a Department of Agriculture inquiry. Counsel said the county has agreed to a consent order resolving regulatory concerns and asked the board to authorize the chairman to execute it; the board approved the authorization so operations can resume.
Votes: Most approvals were taken by motion, second and a show-of-hands vote. Individual roll-call tallies were not recorded in the public transcript; each motion was announced as "motion passes" after a show-of-hands vote.
