The Botetourt County School Board voted on March 12 to change April 21, 2026, to a teacher workday after Superintendent Dr. Womack relayed guidance from the Virginia Department of Education that the date may not be used as an unscheduled remote learning day because it is a planned referendum election.
The motion to update the 2025–26 calendar was made by Tim Davidick, seconded by Jenny P. Wilson, and carried. Dr. Womack noted she had met with the registrar and that the division is tracking a predicted 60% voter turnout; seven Botetourt County schools will serve as polling places.
On budget matters, Dr. Womack summarized recent budget and finance work, including a Feb. 18 FY27 budget work session and meetings about health insurance renewals and indoor air quality planning. Mr. Lee presented the proposed FY27 school board budget on first reading and said the board will hold a budget committee meeting on March 19, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
The board announced a public hearing and vote on the FY26–27 school board budget for March 31, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. Members invited public comment on the proposed budget; no citizens addressed the board at the meeting.
The board will return for its next regular meeting on April 9, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
